At Central Valley Animal Hospital, we remain committed to the care and recuperation of our patients. We are pleased to offer a state of the art water treadmill to meet all our patient’s rehabilitation needs.
The science behind water therapy relies on the principle of buoyancy, which counters the effect of gravity and allows less strain to be placed on the joints and bones of a dog or cat. The column of water is carefully controlled to allow patients to return to their normal gait pattern. Since patients are floating and carefully monitored while they exercise, the chance of falling and creating additional injury is significantly reduced. Rehabilitation using the water treadmill also offers resistance training, helping to condition the cardiovascular system, improve blood flow and mobility, accelerate tissue repair, and aid in weight loss. The following is a list of conditions which could benefit from water therapy:
- Hip dysplasia
- Limb weakness
- Neurologic or soft tissue injuries
- Post-surgical conditions, including amputation, fracture repair, or back surgery
- Back injuries
- Cardiovascular training
- Muscle strength and conditioning
